How to calculate the true cost of a missed call
Across every size of restaurant: 15 to 30% of all calls in peak hours go unanswered. They hit voicemail, get a busy tone, or staff is with another guest. Not all are orders — but 60-70% of them are potential orders, the data shows.
Formula: (average ticket) × (conversion rate 60%) × (missed calls). Example: 50 missed calls per week × 60% × 28 euros = 840 euros a week, or 43,680 euros a year. That's the number you have to keep in mind when comparing to AI system costs.
What AI gives back — five sources of value
First: 100% of calls answered. Second: entry errors down 70-80%, fewer refunds and returns. Third: consistent upsell, average ticket up 6-12%. Fourth: staff freed from the phone so they can focus on seated guests, which lifts tips and repeat visits.
